Keir Starmer Delays Major Decisions Ahead of Potential Burnham Takeover
Keir Starmer Delays Major Decisions Ahead of Potential Burnham Takeover Sir Keir Starmer visited recently elected MP for Makerfield, Andy Burnham, to make sure there is an "orderly" transfer of power after Sir Keir Starmer announced his decision to resign as the Prime Minister of the UK. Starmer has granted "access talks" with civil servants and security briefings for Labour leaders who may challenge him. At present, Burnham is the only candidate; provided that no challenger appears by July 16, he can become prime minister by July 17. In order to ease the transition, Sir Keir Starmer has put off any major policy and budgetary decisions. Although Burnham vowed to follow the current financial regulations and tax pledges, some Labour MPs have thought about supporting other candidates, Darren Jones or Al Carns.
